Induction Class of 2008
Jesse Owen Hayduk Winter
Jesse Owen Hayduk Winter retired from the Painesville Telegraph in 1986 after 52 years service as a reporter and feature editor. At age 16, she began her work as a correspondent for the Fairport Beacon. At the time of her graduation she had already gone to work at the Telegraph. Mrs. Hayduk was seen as a forerunner in the women's movement due to her early professional career, long before this was a recognized option for women.
She received numerous local service awards and won area, state, and national awards for her writing. Jessie was also in demand as a speaker. She came across so well because she genuinely liked people and her job. In 1957 the Fairport Men's Civic Club presented her with the "Distinguished Citizen" plaque. Everyone in Fairport admired and respected Jesse.
