Fred Thomas
Fred Thomas was recognized nationally and internationally as an exceptional track official. At Fairport he lettered in football, basketball, and track, and competed in the 880 yard run at the Ohio State track meet. He was a track official for 35 years, officiating college and limited states. Athletic Track and Field (USATF) events for 28 years, including national championships, high school and college championships, as well as youth events.
Fred received the 2010 Charles M. Ruter award for his work as the outstanding running event official in the United States. He officiated at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and at five Olympic trials. Fred spent many hours mentoring young track officials, and was a speaker at clinics for the certification of track officials.
