Don Olix
Don Olix was born andin Fairport and lived here his entire life. Don became an avid baseball player and was a member of the 1933 state champion American Legion team. Don was recruited to play professional baseball with The St Louis Cardinals at their Grand Forks ND farm team. By cosmic coincidence, a Grand Forks high school girl and avid baseball fan, Irene Anderson, would become Don's wife, following an engagement that covered Don's baseball playing and managing years and service in the US Army during WWII.
Following the war, Don earned a chemical engineering degree and began work for Diamond Alkali in Fairport, where he and Irene raised three children. Don wrote a book on the history of Fairport sports and athletes. He started and led a boys baseball school and a girls softball league and managed a boys E league baseball team for years when Fairport had no school baseball or softball teams. Don was helpful in sustaining baseball in Fairport and had a positive impact on many whom he coached.
