Dianne Olix '65
Dianne was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota, moving to Fairport Harbor at age 3. At Harding H.S. she was in G.A.A.,
Y Club, Concert & Marching Band, Student Council, Scholarship Club, National Honor Society, and Yearbook staff,
holding leadership positions in all. She was 1965 class treasurer and Valedictorian. She received these awards: Bausch &
Lomb Science, DAR, Service F, Buckeye Girls State. She earned a B.A. in Mathematics from Miami University and M.Ed.
in Curriculum and Supervision from Wright State University. At Miami she played intercollegiate basketball and tennis
and was inducted into academic honoraries Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Lambda Delta, Pi Mu Epsilon, and Delta Phi Alpha. A
mathematics teacher for Kettering OH schools, she also taught for Sinclair Community College, Ohio State University,
and University of Dayton. In Kettering she served as department chair and was advisor to Math Club, Outdoors Club,
and Math Retreat. She coached tennis and softball and coached the OHSAA Singles Champion at the first state tennis
tournament held for girls in 1976.
Dianne received numerous teaching awards including the Montgomery County Excellence in Teaching Award, the State Award for Exemplary Math Teaching, and the National Science Foundation's Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics or Science Teaching. These awards recognize teachers for their passion, dedication, and impact in the classroom. Dianne presented sessions at over 50 conferences and workshops all over the USA and Canada. Dianne has served her communities as a Girl Scout leader, a Red Cross disaster relief specialist, a server at St. Vincent dePaul shelters, and a member of the Honor Flight photo team. Kettering Kiwanis Club named her as 1989 Citizen of the Year.
She has also been a longtime volunteer for the city of Kettering in many projects, especially as a promoter of developing pickleball courts and as a founder of their Pickleball Advisory Council/Court Monitors. She has also dabbled in the fields of advertising, graphic arts, and audio visual communication. She is active in several sports, art, and music groups in OH and FL.
Dianne loved growing up in Fairport Harbor. She had many teachers, classmates, family members, and other Hall of Fame members who provided a huge influence on her success.
